Grimm's Spiel und Holz Design are a small firm based in Hochdorf at the foot of the Swabian Alb in southern Germany. There they coat the wood with natural oil, stain with water-based colours and control the quality of each product. Woodworking is outsourced to a few independent shops in Europe only. Grimm's regularly test their toys for quality and safety. All products including the colour and oil meet the european standard for safety of toys (EN71) .
The wood used (Alder, Lime, Beech and Maple) is only sourced from sustainably managed forests in Europe.
Grimms produce natural and sustainable wooden toys. As a result, they always have unique markings since wood grain has changing structures and colours which serve as proof of its natural origins. The unique variations are proof of the toy’s quality and not a defect.
Grimms has FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification which is recommended as an international seal by world environmental organizations such as Greenpeace and WWF to help preserve ecological balance. Products with this logo are certified.
