The Story behind our Brands

Before Klean Kanteen®, hydration bottles were made from either polycarbonate plastic or aluminum.

The founders of Klean Kanteen wanted to give health conscious people a safe alternative to plastic and aluminum. So the very first Klean Kanteen was made from high quality, 18/8, food-grade stainless steel – a metal superior in both strength and safety that contains no harmful chemicals or toxins.

Grimm's Spiel und Holz Design are a small firm based in Hochdorf at the foot of the Swabian Alb in southern Germany. There they coat the wood with natural oil, stain with water-based colours and control the quality of each product. Woodworking is outsourced to a few independent shops in Europe only. Grimm's regularly test their toys for quality and safety. All products including the colour and oil meet the european standard for safety of toys (EN71) .
The wood used (Alder, Lime, Beech and Maple) is only sourced from sustainably managed forests in Europe.

Babies, toddlers and children smile with wonder at the cute designs and quirky expressions, parents smile at the joy of watching their little ones and knowing that their purchase also helped a family a long way away, and the Hathay Bunano artisans smile knowing that they have sustainable, regular and flexible employment and a chance to give their own children a better life.

Hathay Bunano provides fairly paid, good quality, flexible and local employment for rural women who are poor and often disadvantaged.

Hathay Bunano, means hand made or hand knitted in Bangla. The women create contemporary, beautiful soft toys all by hand.

When you purchase a Pebble product, you are helping poor women in Bangladesh support their families and keep them together.

Under the Nile was founded in 1998 by Janice and Mohamed Masoud and quickly grew to become a leader in the organic cotton industry. All products use 100% handpicked organic Egyptian cotton.
No chemicals or pesticides are ever used throughout the entire cultivation and production process.
Strict certification guidelines ensure that organic cotton provides a fair livelihood for people in disadvantaged communities. Organic cotton doesn't use chemicals that often seep into ground water, making it toxic for humans and animals. Organic farming protects farmers and their surrounding communities from being exposed to the carcinogenic chemicals used in conventional crop production methods.

Best Years are an ethical company and ethical sourcing is at the core of all their products.

Their interest in ethical sourcing led to their 2009 partnership with the Pebble fairtrade cooperatives who handmake knitted and crochet toys in rural Bangladesh creating thousands of fairly paid and flexible jobs in the process.

All Best Years products are tested to CE and EN71 standards. All are suitable from birth and are machine washable.

The concept of Thrift Design is Art and Craft, with an environmentally conscious flair - that means developing materials from salvaged objects, and giving them a new beautiful form. In a world with finite resources there is real value in re-animating waste and used materials.
